Flower Care
Our flowers are selected and arranged with care. A few simple steps will help keep them looking beautiful for longer.
Start with a clean vase
Before arranging your flowers, wash your vase thoroughly with warm, soapy water. A clean vessel helps minimise bacteria and keeps the water fresher.
Prepare the stems
Remove any wrapping and trim approximately 2 cm from each stem on an angle. Always use clean, sharp scissors or secateurs to avoid crushing the stems.
Remove any leaves that will sit below the waterline, as submerged foliage can cause bacteria to develop more quickly.
Keep the water fresh
Fill your vase generously with fresh, cool water and check the level each day. Flowers can be surprisingly thirsty, particularly during warmer weather.
Replace the water every two days, rinsing the vase and trimming the stems again before returning the flowers.
Choose the right position
Display your flowers in a cool place, away from direct sunlight, heaters, air conditioning and strong draughts. Avoid placing them near ripening fruit, which can cause flowers to mature more quickly.
Refresh as needed
Some varieties naturally have a shorter vase life than others. Remove any perishing flowers or foliage as they appear, allowing the remaining blooms more room to open and flourish.
Hydrangeas can benefit from a light mist over their petals. If they begin to soften or wilt, submerging the flower heads in cool water for a short time can help revive them.
Caring for arranged flowers
If your flowers arrive arranged in a vase, top up the water daily and refresh it where possible.
